local anaesthetic (LA)
is a drug that, although it frequently affects other senses as well, provides reversible absence of pain feeling. Paralysis (loss of muscle strength) is another effect that can be produced when it is used to block specific nerve pathways (local anaesthetic nerve block).
Amino amide and amino ester local anaesthetics are the two groups of clinical LAs. Cocaine and synthetic LAs share structural similarities. They are mainly different from cocaine in that they have a very minimal potential for misuse and don't cause hypertension or (with a few rare instances) vasoconstriction.
They are employed in several local anaesthetic methods, including:
cutaneous anaesthesia (surface)
application of an aesthetic that has been dissolved in DMSO or other solvents or carriers topically as a cream, gel, ointment, liquid, or spray
